Lots of music is inspired by the beauty of nature and we have made that a theme for this year’s festival, since Växjö is so prominent as a pioneer-city on being gentle to the Earth we all inherited.

David Chan is the soloist in Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, and Per Tengstrand and Shan-shan Sun will play Saint-Saens classic hit Carnival of Animals, and of course we have Växjö’s own Musica Vitae as the orchestra.

Excerpt from Vivaldi’s The Seasons at Tengstrand-08

American conductor Scott Speck, who despite his young age already
holds two chief conductor positions in the U.S., is making his Scandinavian debut in Växjö.

Tuesday, September 7 19.00, Palladium

Who was Ludwig? Åke Holmqvist on Beethoven.
Beethovens “Rasumovsky”

Åke Holmqvist has studied Beethoven’s life and music during most of his life and has worked with a Beethoven biography for many years – a biography that is now finished and will be published by Bonnier for release in 2011.

Before Per Tengstrand starts the journey through all 32 Beethoven piano sonatas, this evening gives the audience a unique opportunity to hear Sweden’s foremost Beethoven connoisseur share his knowledge of one of history’s most fascinating persons. In a relaxed setting at Palladium Per Tengstrand will be present to provide musical examples.

The evening will end with a mini-concert: four musicians from Musica Vitae will play Beethoven’s String Quartet Op. 18 No. 4.

Åke Holmqvist
Dorota Siuda, violin
Mårten Sundén, violin
Linnéa Nyman, viola
Richard Müller, cello

In cooperation with Växjö Kammarmusikförening

If there was a top ten chart of the greatest miracles of art and music, Beethoven’s 32 piano sonatas would have an obvious place in it, alongside Shakespeare’s plays and Michelangelo’s art. Beethoven wrote piano sonatas throughout most of his life, and we can follow one of the greatest geniuses of all time in his piano music: from a young, confident piano virtuoso to a deaf master, bitter over his fate but nevertheless with an incredible inspiration and sensitivity in his music.

Per Tengstrand will guide us through this amazing journey in the autumn and spring during eight concerts in Växjö: the obvious start of this serie is, of course, at this festival.

Tickets: 150 Kr.
